MyPlace Seminar with Head of Birmingham Youth Services, Harry Fowler
I was very pleased to host a seminar with the Head of Birmingham Youth Services, Harry Fowler on the myplace centre that is located at Aston Sixways Island.
Harry was joined by other colleagues Soulla Yiasouma (Deputy Head of Youth Services) and Juliet Faulkner (Senior Youth Worker at Aston Sixways).
The audience of over 50 individuals including many young people, youth workers, community activists, mentors and parents asked many questions about the new building, its finances, proposed provision, etc. The questioning of the young people was very impressive as they will have an influential role in the running of the centre and need to be core to the plans.
The keys to the centre will be handed over to Birmingham City Council towards the end of June for youth provision to begin soon after. 4 youth workers led by Juliet will be based in the at the centre along with other officers delivering services to young people. A Connexions Personal Advisor will also be based in the building.
Key community partners have been involved in the designing of the project including Bangladeshi Youth Forum, Young Disciples and City United. There is a clear commitment from Birmingham City Council to continue engaging with the community, in particular young people.
For any further information and/or clarification on the delivery of services, please contact Juliet Faulkner by email juliet.c.faulkner@birmingham.gov.uk
