Oral Question to Cllr John Lines:
“I was pleased to discover that Birmingham City Council prosecuted a landlord for failing to apply for a House in Multiple Occupation license for a property on Turville Road in my ward. He was fined £500 with £2,000 costs and his tenants can now apply for a Rent Repayment Order to recover money to him.
What message do you have for such individuals who fail to apply for the HMO license?
Supplementary Question:
I was shocked to discover that the landlord that was prosecuted in this case was actually the Liberal Democrat Candidate who stood against me, and has stood for the Liberal Democrats in the Lozells & East Handsworth Ward on no less than 4 occasions. In fact, he was endorsed by your colleague Cllr. Graham Green at a husting in Lozells leading up to the 2011 election.
What advice do you have for Cllr. Graham Green when it comes to endorsing Liberal Democrat Local Election Candidates who have failed to comply with Housing Licensing regulations?”
