Cllr. Waseem Zaffar Addresses Birmingham City Council on EDL

I took the opportunity at full Council to question the Leader of the Council, Cllr. Mike Whitby, on the EDL following their demonstration last Saturday in Birmingham. To watch a video of this, please click on this link.

Oral Question to the Leader of the Council:

Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Police and the community have a lot to be proud of for their excellent united stance against the EDL over the weekend. The Police executed an outstanding operation. The EDL have indicated that they had been in discussions with West Midlands Police for over a month regarding a ‘static’ demonstration at Victoria Square.
At what stage were Birmingham City Council involved in these discussions?
Supplementary Question:
The group Islam4UK and its “parent” organisation Al-Muhajiroun were correctly banned by the Labour Government under legislation outlawing the “glorification” of terrorism. The man arrested for murderous attacks in Norway in July admires the EDL and claimed to have held discussions with it. The EDL have travelled the breath of our country inciting racial hatred and dividing communities.
Would you write to the Home Secretary on behalf of Birmingham City Council encouraging her to ban the EDL?
