Birmingham City Council is consulting on the future of 14 council run day nurseries across Birmingham. Two of these nurseries are within the Lozells neighbourhood – Lime Tree on Heathfield Road and Cherry Tree on Graham St. I’m supporting the campaign led by the GMB Union for all 14 nurseries to be maintained.

Around 600 children attend across all the 14 nurseries each week and the nurseries currently employ approximately 120 staff.

We need to ensure that children growing up in our neighbourhood and city have a fair and equal start to life with good quality nursery provision.

Through this consultation Birmingham City Council are looking at how the budget deficits at the nurseries can be reduced to ensure the service is run on a self sufficient model. Please participate in the consultation and tell the council why these nurseries are important for our children.

The consultation can be accessed here and concludes on 23 March 2018.
